Malaysia for Indian citizens: visa-free 30-day entry until 31 Dec 2026, free MDAC arrival card, what to carry and what may change in 2027. Checked 5 Nov 2026.

Last verified

Indian citizens can currently enter Malaysia without a visa for up to 30 days, but the exemption is time-limited. It runs to 31 December 2026, and at the time of checking Malaysia had not announced an extension beyond that date. You must also complete the free Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before you travel. If you plan a trip that falls after 31 December 2026, check the Immigration Department’s announcements before you book, because a visa may be needed.

Visa-free entry until 31 December 2026

Under the current exemption, Indian passport holders can stay up to 30 days per visit for tourism, short business visits, visiting family and transit. Work and study need a proper visa or pass. The previous extension was announced on 20 December 2024, only 11 days before the earlier deadline, so a decision on 2027 may come late. Treat any date after 31 December 2026 as unconfirmed until Malaysia announces it.

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC)

The MDAC is required even for visa-free travellers. It is free, filed online within three days before you arrive, and it is not a visa. Use only the official Malaysian government channel, because lookalike sites charge fees for it.

If the exemption ends

If Malaysia does not extend the exemption, Indian citizens would need to obtain a visa before travel, usually through an online application with a government fee and a processing fee on the portal. Amounts and processing times would be published by the Immigration Department, so we do not quote figures here. We will update this page when the position is confirmed.

Planning a trip after 31 December 2026

If your dates fall after the exemption ends, avoid paying non-refundable flights and hotels until Malaysia confirms the rule. Look for an official notice from the Immigration Department, and book refundable options where you can. If a visa is needed, apply early, because new rules often bring queues at the start.

What to carry

  • A passport valid for at least six months from your date of entry.
  • A confirmed return or onward ticket.
  • Proof of accommodation and enough funds for your stay.
  • Your MDAC confirmation.

Immigration officers can ask for these documents at the border and can refuse entry if they are missing.

Common problems at the border

  • No MDAC submitted, or submitted on a fake site that did not register the application.
  • A passport with too little validity.
  • No proof of onward travel.
  • Planning a stay beyond 30 days without the right pass.
