The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) has approved incentives on international landing charges at Navi Mumbai International Airport to attract airlines, expand international connectivity and increase passenger traffic.
Under the decision, landing charges for both short-haul and long-haul international services will be waived for the first year of operations, providing airlines with lower costs when launching new routes from the airport.
The incentive structure will subsequently include discounted landing charges, with reductions continuing into the second and third years for eligible international services.
The move follows a request from Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL) to revise the route eligibility criteria and align the incentive framework more closely with the airport’s traffic-development objectives.
The airport is expected to use the incentives to encourage airlines to introduce regular international services and increase flight frequencies, particularly on long-haul routes where operating costs are higher.
The measures are aimed at accelerating the development of Navi Mumbai International Airport as an international aviation hub while strengthening Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s overall connectivity and supporting growth in airport traffic.
