India has significantly strengthened its consular network in Australia by launching six new Indian Consular Application Centres (ICACs), providing a major boost to passport, visa, OCI, and other consular services for the growing Indian community across the country. The upgraded centres, operated by VFS Global, officially began functioning from 23 July 2026 after a temporary disruption in services caused by the transition to a new outsourcing partner.
The newly established centres are located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney, making consular services more accessible to Indian citizens, Persons of Indian Origin (PIO), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), students, tourists, and Australian residents requiring Indian documentation.
The launch of these six centres represents one of the biggest upgrades to India’s overseas consular infrastructure in Australia in recent years. According to the High Commission of India in Canberra, the new centres are designed to improve customer experience through larger facilities, increased appointment availability, additional service counters, and extended application submission windows.

The launch follows a temporary suspension of Indian consular, passport, and visa services in Australia earlier in July due to legal and contractual changes involving the previous outsourcing arrangements. During that period, only limited emergency services were available through Indian diplomatic missions. With VFS Global now taking over operations, full services have resumed across all six newly established centres.
