Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has highlighted the role of new airports and flight routes in driving tourism and economic activity across India’s emerging destinations.
Speaking about the country’s expanding aviation network, Naidu said every new airport and route should be assessed not only for its transport benefits but also for the tourism economy it can generate in the surrounding region.
He cited Purnia and Darbhanga in Bihar, along with Kishangarh, Shivamogga, Belgaum, Kadapa and Kurnool, as examples of destinations that are benefiting from improved air connectivity.
According to Naidu, stronger aviation access can substantially reduce travel time and influence how travellers plan their journeys, making previously less accessible destinations more viable for tourism.
He also noted that connectivity to local airports is increasingly becoming a factor in travellers’ destination choices. This trend can create new opportunities for hotels, tour operators, local businesses and other tourism stakeholders.
Naidu’s comments underline the growing link between India’s aviation expansion and regional tourism development, with improved air access expected to support visitor flows, local economies and the emergence of new tourism destinations.
