IndiGo and Adani Airports Announce New Reward-Based Duty-Free Shopping Experience
The Indian aviation and airport retail industries have witnessed a major milestone as IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Limited have announced a new rewards-based duty-free shopping experience. This is possible as travelers can earn points or rewards in the form of BluChips for their duty-free shopping experience at select airports in India.
The strategic alliance is a major boost for the Indian airport retail industry as this will redefine the overall passenger experience through digital retail and rewards programs. This is a major step towards revolutionizing the overall experience for travelers as they shop at airports.
How the BluChips Reward System Operates
Under the partnership, the members of IndiGo’s loyalty program will now be able to collect five BluChips for every ₹100 spent on duty-free products through the Adani platform.
Travelers will be able to explore a wide range of duty-free products like perfumes, electronic goods, fashion products, and chocolates through an online platform before their departure. Once they have paid for the products they wish to purchase, they will be able to collect their products at the airport before departure.
The reward points will be credited to the customer’s account within 24 to 48 hours of the completion of the transaction.
Enhancing Digital Airport Experiences
This partnership is a result of a larger trend in digitalization in the travel sector. With this partnership between BluChips and Adani’s digital platform, passengers will be able to have a more seamless experience.
Passengers will no longer have to look for duty-free shops at the last minute in physical form. They will be able to order products online in advance, thereby saving time and ensuring availability.
This not only saves passengers’ time but also aligns with current trends in passenger travel, which favor digitalized experiences.
Expanding Across Major Indian Airports
Currently, the BluChips duty-free rewards program is available at several airports managed by the Adani Group, which include Mumbai Airport, Ahmedabad Airport, Thiruvananthapurum Airport, Jaipur Airport, Mangaluru Airport, and Lucknow Airport.
Plans are already in place for the program’s expansion to include other airports such as the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati and the Navi Mumbai International Airport.
The expansion plans demonstrate the long-term vision shared by both companies.
Strengthening Loyalty Programs Beyond Flights
Traditionally, airline loyalty programs have been about flight bookings and upgrades. This partnership takes the benefits of loyalty programs beyond flight bookings.
For IndiGo, this partnership strengthens the overall value proposition for its BluChips program by making it relevant for the entire customer journey, not just in the air.
For Adani Airports, this partnership further strengthens their leadership in airport retail innovation.
Strengthening Loyalty Programs Beyond Flights
Typically, a loyalty program in the airline industry revolves around flights and upgrading flights. This partnership extends the benefits of a loyalty program beyond flights.
For IndiGo, this partnership adds to the overall value proposition that they offer to their BluChips program by extending it across the entire customer experience and not just in-flight.
For Adani Airports, this partnership adds to their already leading position in airport retail innovation.
